Among the many beautiful locations for civil ceremonies in Tuscany, the Abbey of San Galgano holds a special place in my heart. It is located in Chiusdino, a few kilometres from Siena, in a charming and deserted area. It is a former Cistercian abbey, whose roof collapsed in the past centuries. And this gives the abbey an endless charm.
Millions of tourists visit it every year. Some of them decide to get married right here. It’s the case of this beautiful couple. The spouses got ready at the estate of Bichi Borghesi, in Scorgiano. An ancient ruined and charming property that offers its guests rooms and apartments immersed in nature, a riding school and a fabulous red wine produced by local vineyards.
Any wedding photographer could not be happier to photograph in these two amazing venues. After the civil ceremony, in fact, I pictured the newlyweds inside the Abbey, along the aisles and between the columns in stone.… read more...
Every time we go back to Venice, it’s still like the first time.
The Venetian city always offers new and unique glimpses, especially for the wedding photo sessions. It could be the water, the people who live there or just the atmosphere. We love it and we never lose the chance to dedicate a little part of the day to take a look and walk around the streets of the city. We got the opportunity to come back there thanks to a Russian couple. Polina and Yuri decided to celebrate their wedding in Venice.
The two got ready at the Hotel Danieli, right in front of the lagoon. The hotel is striking, extra luxury Venetian style; big arch glass doors are spaced out by lovely terraces overlooking the hall; the walls, covered by precious damasks from the Far East, are the perfect background for baroque furniture. Polina, whom we didn’t have the pleasure to meet before, appeared in all her beauty.… read more...
If I were to get married again, I would seriously consider Lerici as my wedding location. This stretch of the Ligurian coast is as beautiful as little known. Frequented mainly by locals, it is one of the loveliest areas where to celebrate a seaside celebration.
The bride and the groom, from the cold Russia, have chosen Lerici among the many wedding locations of Liguria. In addition to the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea, it’s been the typically Italian atmosphere that brought them here. For example, the colourful houses near the harbour, the perched castle, rustic taverns and cafes overlooking the square, the rowdy fishermen who sell fresh seafood directly on the market stalls. A lovely atmosphere! They got dressed up in a private inn in Fiascherino, surrounded by their families and close friends.
The couple portraits were taken in the morning in the center of Lerici. After the first pictures, with boats and blue water as a background, we climbed the small fishing village up to the castle, on the top of the village.… read more...
Thanks to all the beautiful women he met, he would have some problem in the choice of his sweetheart! But if James Bond was about to get married, I’m sure he would consider Eloping in Tuscany to do that!
It is no coincidence that almost all the films in the series of 007 are partly set in Tuscany. No place in the world, in fact, offers a variety of landscapes as rich and varied. The beautiful Eva Green or Halle Berry would not think twice about saying Yes in Italy to spend their honeymoon here, between art and rolling hills.
Eloping in Tuscany
Although on one hand bureaucracy is particularly troublesome, and it ‘s hard to plan a civil marriage abroad, the symbolic ceremony is the easiest thing to arrange in Tuscany. In addition to beautiful sceneries, there’s everything you could want for a romantic getaway: good food, art, sweet life, culture and relax.… read more...
Tuscany offers to whom decide to get married here stunning venues to celebrate the wedding. As wedding photographers, we cannot help but recall, among these, Florence, Siena, Lucca, but also the area of Chianti and Versilia.
Off the beaten touristic and more noble sites, there are little-known villas and historic venues in celebrating the wedding will be a unique experience for you and your guests!
All these locations have:
a place to celebrate the symbolic or civil ceremony
accommodations within the property or very close
many areas for the receptions
gorgeous backgrounds for the photo shoots
rain cover in case of bad weather
The rain cover is an essential factor in choosing a villa or a castle for the wedding. A lot of times, even in beautiful villas, bride and groom have to rent tensile structures that ruin the aesthetics of the venue. In fact, all these places have indoor areas.… read more...
If you are planning your wedding in Tuscany from abroad, it is likely that you have not seen even half of the possible venues. And, it is very likely that the one you have chosen is not the one that suits you most. A Tettuccio SPA Wedding is the best example that I can use as evidence.
Surely you know that the choice of venue is the most critical thing after the choice of a partner with whom you will spend the rest of your life. There is nothing worse than a bad venue to ruin a memorable event. How? Have you ever attended a wedding under the rain? You decided to get married in Italy because of its wonderful and mild climate you’d never want it to happen. But, in the unlikely event that it was to rain, is your venue equipped to handle this?
For this reason, a right venue is the first fundamental choice when designing a memorable wedding, especially for those couples who are planning a wedding from abroad. … read more...
Among the millions of tourists who flock the Cinque Terre every year, a large part are couples in love who choose to celebrate their wedding here. The villages of the Riviera are among the most sought-after locations for weddings in the world, and a photographer could not be happier to work in such a lovely place.
From distant Australia, these two lovers chose to elope to Cinque Terre to get married. A couple of friends were their only witnesses. The wedding was celebrated on a terrace overlooking Monterosso al Mare, surrounded by green vineyards and mountains facing the sea. Unfortunately, the rain came upon us, but the bride and groom, super excited, hardly noticed it!
After the ceremony, it was a pleasure to guide them around and take their photos in the city centre. And while I was capturing spontaneous wedding photographs during a walk, the sun came back! Just in time for portraits with fabulous views in Vernazza.… read more...
I don’t need even one great reason to shoot a San Galgano Wedding. Memories always make me come back here. As the wine during ageing, they become sweeter and more meaningful. Ciaran and Joanna, from Canada, gave me the reason to return: their wonderful wedding in Tuscany.
The Abbey of San Galgano is one of the most fascinating places in Tuscany. This ancient Cistercian abbey of 1300 is located in the countryside of Siena. Its unique feature is also its biggest flaw: the abbey has no roof, it collapsed centuries ago during a storm. This characteristic leaves speechless thousands of tourists coming all the way from Siena and Florence to see it. The area where the abbey is located is wild. The roads wind through miles of fields, hills, and trails. Silence is the king of these valleys. The wind passing through the ruins is the only sound within the walls of the abbey.… read more...

David and Zhaleh’s wedding was celebrated in one of the most beautiful villas of Tuscany. The civil ceremony took place inside the garden of Villa Grabau, near Lucca, in a park with old trees surrounded by the tranquility of the Tuscan countryside.
This British couple, who have been living in Australia for several years now, had the opportunity to crown their dream in front of friends and family, some of whom they hadn’t seen for a long time.
The preparation of the bride took place in Villa Pitti Amerighi, in Montecatini Terme. Here, a fantastic vintage Mercedes 180 SL picked her up and she was taken her directly to the ceremony.

Maybe you don’t know that Tuscany is very rich in churches. Whether they are Romanesque, Baroque or modern, most of them are ideal for moving and touching ceremonies, in a setting full of charm and history. The same cannot be said for civil ceremonies. The rite of the civil wedding is short, cold and unexciting. The setting where it takes place, which usually is the town hall, is unattractive.
Who doesn’t dream a civil wedding on a beach, with the sound of the waves in the background? Or in a garden of a grand Italian villa with relatives and friends? Although some town halls of Tuscany are kept in an excellent way, wouldn’t be nicer to have a civil service outdoors?
Since a few years, you can have civil ceremonies in unique places, such the gardens of the most beautiful historical villas of Tuscany.

In Italy, it is called lovers’ getaway. There could not be a more romantic name to define what in the Italian language does not have a precise definition. Two words: Italy elopement.
The one famous in the 60s and 70s, when lovers from South-Italy, who did not accept the marriage arranged by their families, flee to the north, trying to build a life after a rapid rite celebrated in haste.
In 2015, many things have changed. The elopement has become a recurring thought in all those couples who are looking for a different way to celebrate a wedding; something that is more intimate, something to live almost privately, something that might be also the occasion for a great honeymoon.
Why eloping abroad?
The elopement is nothing more than a wedding where there is no one else but the couple and the celebrant. And, of course, the photographer.
But what are the real benefits of an Italy elopement?… read more...
“With all the time I had to devote to the organization, before leaving my husband I will think about it at least 100 times!”
That said a bride when I asked for clarification about her civil wedding in Italy. But first things first.
A couple who wants to get married with a civil ceremony in Italy has two options:
Arranging a civil ceremony in the country of origin and a symbolic ceremony in Italy;
Arranging a civil ceremony directly in Italy, in the halls of the municipalities or in the beautiful villas, if the municipality allows it.
This last solution is undoubtedly the most difficult.
Organizing a symbolic ceremony is extremely easy: once you find the celebrant, you simply need to agree on the type of ritual and timing.
The civil wedding in Italy is valid worldwide, but organizing it means having to do with the endless Italian bureaucracy.Celebrating the rite in a garden, surely pays back your efforts.… read more...
It’s been only four years since he first met her.
He met her in Florence, in a photography atelier where he had been working for a few years. She, a university student of photography about to graduate; he, an advertising photographer with a real passion for weddings. Since that February 2009 more than 1500 days have passed; they’ve spent together many lovely days, worked a lot and travelled little.
So, after a holiday to the Canary Islands, they decided that it was the right time to be on the other side; putting the cameras aside, they wore the wedding dresses and, after a few months of tiring preparation, they got married at the end of May surrounded by friends and relatives. The civil ceremony took place at the Abbey of San Galgano, near Siena.

Cortona is one of those towns where you cannot help but fall in love with it. Perched on the hills, Cortona is the quintessential Tuscany.
The downtown streets are delightful, full of outdoor cafes where you can spend a few hours drinking delicious wines and eating the healthy food of the area. Its many doors frame the most beautiful sunsets, with views over the surrounding fields. In short, one of the loveliest places to celebrate a wedding.
This friendly American couple was looking for an intimate and genuine wedding, surrounded by a few but real friends and family. The bride got dressed at the Villa Marsili Hotel with her sister, who was very excited! Then she reached her husband at the Town Hall of Cortona, entirely decorated with wood, where their wedding planner Simona was waiting for them. I have left the couple to enjoy their honeymoon in Boracay, the Philippines, after their wedding on the beach. However, Valentina and Daniele were certainly not easy to please. Since the seaside wedding was quite intimate, they thought why not share the joy of a garden ceremony with the ones couldn’t make the big day?
Therefore, they came to the decision to have a new wedding, in front of family members and friends who couldn’t celebrate with them in person in the Philippines. The place that has been chosen for the new wedding is completely different to the first, seaside location. Villa Bernardini hosted the spouses and their guests during the whole event, from the ceremony to the cake cutting, and the memorable first dance.
The civil wedding took place on a hot afternoon of July, in the central garden facing the grand facade of the villa. White chairs contrasted with the green grass, fresh flowers filled the setting, and many many tears were shed!… read more...
Growing up in Italy can be a misfortune.
Walking every day among masterpieces of art and architecture is one of the greatest advantages of living in Florence.
As Italians, we often forget about this beauty because we see it every day. I always thought that Japanese and Americans were very lucky, because they can enjoy an incredible artistic heritage during a few days of vacation, taking the best of it and dreaming to come back soon to see what they missed.
The story of this photograph cannot do without this premise. Because it is thanks to Kirsty and Kevin and their beautiful elopement in Florence that I understand what it’s like to spend your wedding day in the midst of so much beauty. After seeing numerous wedding proposals, this was the first time I had to photograph an elopement.
Florence is the perfect location for a romantic elopement.
