Tuscany is the best place in the world for elopement and intimate destination weddings. If you want idyllic views, pretty landscapes for photos, the typical rolling hills and amazing Italian villas, this is the place where you should plan your wedding.
There are lots of good reasons for a romantic getaway in Tuscany. Think how nice it would be to exchange the rings with the hills of the Val d’Orcia in the background! Or strolling after your wedding in Florence and kissing with the sun sinking behind Ponte Vecchio! There are no limits to imagination!
The elopement is the essence of marriage. It is nothing but a romantic getaway during which the two lovers get married. You need only a celebrant, two lovers and two rings. A little of voice to declare the promises, a few tears to get excited, and so much love for the future life together. Sometimes there are a few friends or family members who will be the wedding witnesses.Read more!
If you are planning to elope in Italy, in Tuscany, you can:
A symbolic wedding with a celebrant in beautiful villas or in the stunning landscaped gardens
A civil ceremony in the most beautiful villages of Tuscany. You can hire a wedding planner who can take care of bureaucratic issues and lodging of the documents to the municipality.
Why an Elopement Tuscany?
There are endless locations where you can celebrate your wedding . Would you like to celebrate a wedding on a rock in front of the sea at sunset? Would you rather do it in the snow in front of a wooden hut? Or on a tower in front of the skyline of Florence? All this is possible. Any idea you have, I think in Tuscany you can achieve it.
Many luxury venues are being organized for wedding ceremonies in-house and some municipalities allow the opportunity to celebrate beautiful rites in the gardens of their villas, with a civil ceremony and so in front of the mayor of the city.
Finally a nice dinner to celebrate the new union, one of the most romantic restaurants in Tuscany.
Tuscany is also the perfect place to start a dreamlike honeymoon. Florence, Lucca, San Gimignano and Siena are waiting for you for holidays between art and nature. The beaches of Versilia and the luxurious beach resorts are ideal for those seeking nightlife. The wild sea is just a few kilometers away, at the pristine reefs of the Riviera and the Cinque Terre. If all this were not enough, take a train, and in two hours you can admire the beautiful lagoon of Venice or the Coliseum in Rome.
Villa Vignamaggio is one of those places where you could spend an entire lifetime. It is a just renovated old Tuscan-style village near Panzano in Chianti, in one the most picturesque parts of Italy. The property offers rooms for its guests, who spend a few days relaxing in the countryside, making excursions and visiting the most famous wineries in the area. Villa Vignamaggio is also the perfect wedding venue for any photo shoot. The central house, with its pink walls in contrast with the intense green of the vegetation, is ideal for portraits. All around, vineyards, hills and silence: the ultimate dream for every wedding photographer.
This lovely Canadian couple decided to celebrate their wedding here. An intimate celebration, which was attended by the photographer, the celebrant and four talented musicians. The ceremony took place in the garden, where the bride and groom promised each other eternal love exchanging wedding rings and vows.… read more...
In my opinion, George and Amal Clooney didn’t really enjoy their Venice Wedding. Celebrating the ceremony indoors, under an arch of flowers leaning against a wall, when you’re in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, is not the top of the world. Thinking about a wedding in Venice, there are many ideas that come to my mind! A civil ceremony at Palazzo Cavalli, for example, which is right outside the Hotel Amman. In this beautiful place, home of the municipal hall, ceremonies are celebrated with a view on the Rialto Bridge and the Grand Canal.
Those looking for a ceremony in a church will be spoiled for choice. The church Santa Maria Della Salute is one of the most beautiful, but unfortunately accessible to few. The Church of San Giorgio Maggiore, on the namesake island, is the one most in demand, with a view on Piazza San Marco and Palazzo Ducale.… read more...
Among the many locations for weddings in Tuscany, Lucca is an original and very successful alternative! The bride and the groom are well informed of it as they chose a romantic getaway in this picturesque spot of Italy to celebrate their wedding!
Lucca is a gorgeous town that is located halfway between Florence and the sea. Surrounded by great walls, few people know it, but most of them remain intrigued by it. The centre is composed of a myriad of narrow streets that head to Piazza San Michele, where the impressive cathedral is located.
Nearby lies Palazzo Orsetti, which the bride and groom have chosen for the civil ceremony. Palazzo Orsetti is an old building, with large rooms and impressive staircases, famous for the so-called Sala Verde, where the mayor celebrates the civil rite.
After the ceremony, I photographed them during a walk through the most beautiful highlights of the town.… read more...
Among the best works done in 2015, I remember this Isola del Garda wedding. With many hopes in my mind, I leave for Villa Florida in Gardone Riviera, the hotel where the couple got ready before the wedding. Upon my arrival, I was immediately surprised. The bride was a charming and gentle girl, the kind of muse every photographer would like to portray. The groom, also good-looking, was a friendly boy and puts me at ease right away.
Their story looks like a romantic movie: they met in London. She, Russian and he, Austrian, fell for each other after a real love at first sight. Within a few months, they’ve decided to get married. What better location than Italy to do it?
Isola del Garda is one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Northern Italy. This beautiful villa is located on a private island in the middle of Lake Garda, just a few minutes away by speed boat from the shores of Salò and Gardone Riviera.… read more...
Queen Elizabeth, if for once could not be subject to the strict rules of the British royal protocol, would not doubt. Could she come back, instead of the veil, she would wear a wedding fascinator with veil. After all, it is thanks to her that the world has rediscovered the beauty of the headgear with personality and style!
The fascinator is the must-have accessory of the moment. It makes the brides of the 5 continents crazy for its impish character halfway between sporty style and 30s’ fashion. Two styles light years away from each other but it is nice to find them in this eclectic and versatile headgear. If you are hunting for inspiration for the accessories of your wedding, this little hat with veil is exactly what you need.
Why a wedding fascinator with veil?
Perfect for all the ceremonies… and for wedding photos!
It is often considered by those looking for a retro look and a good reason to give up the veil.… read more...
Conti di San Bonifacio is undoubtedly one of the most attractive wedding venues of Tuscany. You never stop wondering! When I thought I had seen the nicest places there, here comes the chance to work in this incredible estate in the Maremma. This Conti di San Bonifacio Wedding is worth to be told! But first things first.
Conti di San Bonifacio is a wine resort located in Gavorrano, in the province of Grosseto. The area is the wildest and unspoilt of Tuscany: the paradise of every photographer. Fields in bloom and orderly vineyards accompany me along the journey on deserted roads. A gate out of nowhere welcomes me; the road begins to climb and, at last, I am in front of the impressive facade of the structure. A large arched wooden door is before my eyes. Above it, the skeleton of the head of a buffalo. I am suddenly aware that one of the strengths of the Conti di San Bonifacio is the position.… read more...
Today we talk about a trend that is spreading very quickly: the elopement. What is it? The elopement is nothing more than a romantic runaway, during which the wedding between two lovers is celebrated.
Tradition has that everything is organized in secret; even the parents should be unaware of intentions of the spouses. Although the elopement has lost much of the original meaning in recent years, more and more couples choose to get married in this way.
April and Andy chose Florence for their wedding. Put yourself in the shoes of these two Americans who organize the wedding in Italy … is there a better destination than Florence as a background for photos? April and Andy chose the Torre di Bellosguardo, an exclusive resort on a hill, for ceremony and festivities.
Those who have visited Florence knows that capital of Tuscany is surrounded by many hills from which you can enjoy a magnificent panorama so that, on the clearest days, you can see the distant sea.… read more...
Among the many great wedding locations where to elope in Italy, Cinque Terre have to be mentioned among the most charming.
Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso; these are the names of the villages. Couples who decide to celebrate a wedding in Cinque Terre will benefit not only from the turquoise, clear waters but also from the natural setting, where the untouched nature is interspersed with vineyards, olive groves, and orchards, creating a valuable relationship between man, his traditions and this outstanding stretch of coast.
Cinque Terre are one of God’s remarkable gifts to landscape, portrait and wedding photographers. Every village provides many excellent backdrops for breathtaking photos. While they are now discovered, I see many more happy couples strolling around and kneeling down for romantic and unforgettable wedding proposal in the quieter hours of the evening.
Here you will enjoy sun, sea, wine, and pure, unadulterated Italy. Celebrating a wedding in Cinque Terre is an unforgettable experience.… read more...
Taking wedding photos at the Cinque Terre is the aspiration of many photographers. The Cinque Terre are in fact one of the most visited tourist destinations in Italy. Undoubtedly the most requested by professional photographers and enthusiasts for a holiday in the Bel Paese.
Well connected with the main Italian cities, Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso are located above a strip of coast overlooking the Ligurian Riviera. These five villages are perched on the dark rock above the turquoise sea. Behind them, green hills covered with vineyards and olive trees. Although very different from each other, the houses of all the villages are painted in pastel colours.
It’s easy to meet other photographers on the paths that connect the villages, or in the most beautiful spots, as they wait for the right light to take a picture of the sunset. Having the opportunity to photograph beautiful couples on their Cinque Terre elopements fills my heart with joy and enthusiasm.… read more...
In Italy, it is called lovers’ getaway. There could not be a more romantic name to define what in the Italian language does not have a precise definition. Two words: Italy elopement.
The one famous in the 60s and 70s, when lovers from South-Italy, who did not accept the marriage arranged by their families, flee to the north, trying to build a life after a rapid rite celebrated in haste.
In 2015, many things have changed. The elopement has become a recurring thought in all those couples who are looking for a different way to celebrate a wedding; something that is more intimate, something to live almost privately, something that might be also the occasion for a great honeymoon.
Why eloping abroad?
The elopement is nothing more than a wedding where there is no one else but the couple and the celebrant. And, of course, the photographer.
But what are the real benefits of an Italy elopement?… read more...
Choosing the best venue for your destination wedding in Florence takes time and patience. It’s not as easy as it might seem, especially for those who plan the wedding from abroad.
There are so many beautiful locations that can be taken into account for the big day in Italy. Tuscany and Florence are full of charming historical villas with gardens, grand entrances and magnificent views of the surrounding landscape. A good wedding planner might guide you to the best choice for you and your guests.
But if your dream is a romantic elopement in Italy, things get more complicated. Not having to handle a large number of guests, any place can be a match for an unforgettable ceremony.
Many villas and hotels for destination weddings in Florence offer terraces with views of the city and the Arno river. None of these venues, however, can provide the quality of a Four Seasons Wedding Florence.… read more...
Maybe you don’t know that Tuscany is very rich in churches. Whether they are Romanesque, Baroque or modern, most of them are ideal for moving and touching ceremonies, in a setting full of charm and history. The same cannot be said for civil ceremonies. The rite of the civil wedding is short, cold and unexciting. The setting where it takes place, which usually is the town hall, is unattractive.
Who doesn’t dream a civil wedding on a beach, with the sound of the waves in the background? Or in a garden of a grand Italian villa with relatives and friends? Although some town halls of Tuscany are kept in an excellent way, wouldn’t be nicer to have a civil service outdoors?
Since a few years, you can have civil ceremonies in unique places, such the gardens of the most beautiful historical villas of Tuscany.
These places are perfect because:

San Gimignano is one of the most popular destinations for Tuscany for weddings and honeymoons. Its towers, surrounded by hills and cypress trees, are one of the most famous icons of Tuscany in the world. San Gimignano is quite crowded with tourists throughout the year. The stone streets with typical shops, the atmosphere of the country village and the smell of food through the narrow streets leave an unforgettable memory in the hearts of those who visit it.
Nearby, nature shows its best. Here you can see the most beautiful sunsets of the entire Chianti area. The hills and dusty roads, lined with cypress trees on the sides, are the perfect backgrounds for great photo shoots.
Once I offered to take the wedding portraits here, Claudia and Allan have not felt the need to think twice, and just said yes.

Growing up in Italy can be a misfortune.
Walking every day among masterpieces of art and architecture is one of the greatest advantages of living in Florence.
As Italians, we often forget about this beauty because we see it every day. I always thought that Japanese and Americans were very lucky, because they can enjoy an incredible artistic heritage during a few days of vacation, taking the best of it and dreaming to come back soon to see what they missed.
The story of this photograph cannot do without this premise. Because it is thanks to Kirsty and Kevin and their beautiful elopement in Florence that I understand what it’s like to spend your wedding day in the midst of so much beauty. After seeing numerous wedding proposals, this was the first time I had to photograph an elopement.

Borgo Santo Pietro, the location of today’s wedding, is located in southern Tuscany, the one with round hills and endless fields of sunflowers to admire while strolling along the long roads that run through the countryside.
A stone’s throw from the famous Abbey of San Galgano, there’s this fantastic luxury resort that Jenny and Michael have chosen as the venue for their wedding. The resort consists of a large old villa, which houses the restaurant and the reception, around which the property spreads throughout. Many smaller villas, available for guests, are along roads lined with cypress trees that lead to the large central villa. Thanks to the pool, the gardens, and the services offered, it is the perfect setting to enjoy a relaxing holiday in the quiet of the area. But that’s not all! Borgo Santo Pietro is ideal for a special elopement. Set off from hot Los Angeles for a travelling journey through old Europe, this couple decided to celebrate their wedding here on a warm autumn day.

Among the many venues for intimate weddings, one of the nicest that I have visited in recent times is the Capannelle Winery. This tiny boutique hotel is located in Gaiole in Chianti, in a fantastic location from which you can enjoy the view of the surrounding hills and the old village. The region is one of the most famous in Tuscany. The Chianti area is undoubtedly renowned worldwide for its excellent wines and its slow food. Millions of tourists flock to this place to spend a few days of quietness, enchanted by the legendary sceneries and the relaxed lifestyle.
Capannelle Winery is a luxury resort, with few rooms but large and equipped with every comfort. If I were to get married again, I would seriously consider Lerici as my wedding location. This stretch of the Ligurian coast is as beautiful as little known. Frequented mainly by locals, it is one of the loveliest areas where to celebrate a seaside celebration.
The bride and the groom, from the cold Russia, have chosen Lerici among the many wedding locations of Liguria. In addition to the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea, it’s been the typically Italian atmosphere that brought them here. For example, the colourful houses near the harbour, the perched castle, rustic taverns and cafes overlooking the square, the rowdy fishermen who sell fresh seafood directly on the market stalls. A lovely atmosphere! They got dressed up in a private inn in Fiascherino, surrounded by their families and close friends.
The couple portraits were taken in the morning in the center of Lerici. After the first pictures, with boats and blue water as a background, we climbed the small fishing village up to the castle, on the top of the village.… read more...
Thanks to all the beautiful women he met, he would have some problem in the choice of his sweetheart! But if James Bond was about to get married, I’m sure he would consider Eloping in Tuscany to do that!
It is no coincidence that almost all the films in the series of 007 are partly set in Tuscany. No place in the world, in fact, offers a variety of landscapes as rich and varied. The beautiful Eva Green or Halle Berry would not think twice about saying Yes in Italy to spend their honeymoon here, between art and rolling hills.
Eloping in Tuscany
Although on one hand bureaucracy is particularly troublesome, and it ‘s hard to plan a civil marriage abroad, the symbolic ceremony is the easiest thing to arrange in Tuscany. In addition to beautiful sceneries, there’s everything you could want for a romantic getaway: good food, art, sweet life, culture and relax.… read more...
I love you in all languages of the world. It’s the name of an Italian film of 2005 by Leonardo Pieraccioni, well known in Italy but little abroad. It comes back to my mind during a photo shoot in Florence. Two gorgeous Brazilian newlyweds in front of me; around, intrigued and fascinated, many couples in love on vacation look at the couple as they walk dreamy, radiant and happy after their wedding. This couple has already been here when they were engaged, and they chose to come back here for the best day of their lives.
From Brazil, they have opted for the Tuscan city to elope. They’ve always been in love with Italian art and culture. In particular, Junior, who, with his Empire-style tattoos resumes the shapes and decorations of Roman architecture. They could not choose a better destination for their elopement.
