Portofino has always been one of the most desired wedding locations in Italy. Not surprisingly, hundreds of couples from all around the world choose this village in Liguria for their wedding ceremony and reception. The wedding photographers, at least once in their life, would like to photograph a marriage there. For me, the opportunity came with Shaun and Sarah, and their Portofino wedding at the Hotel Splendido. But first things first!
Portofino is the city of La Dolce Vita for excellence. Here is Italy in miniature: a little harbour, colourful houses, the turquoise sea, stone streets, fashion boutiques alongside food and artisan shops. And many, many foreign tourists. You see them tiredly going up the paths to the Brown Castle, a fortress on the hill where you have the most beautiful overview of the entire bay.
Portofino is one of the most exclusive cities in Italy. Since the early twentieth century, it is the destination of lords, earls, celebrities and artists who spend their holidays here. The port is always crowded with yachts and beautiful boats, and it’s not uncommon to spot some VIP walking in the alleyways and streets of the old town.
The bride and the groom chose a religious wedding in the small but lovely church of San Giorgio. Yellow outside, with a pretty little square in front, inside it is completely white, ideal for a wedding in a seaside town. The view is so lovely that guests have stopped a long time to make selfies after the ceremony.
The reception was held at the Hotel Splendido, which is perched on a hill above Portofino. This old-fashioned hotel is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful in the world. The terraces with views are the highlight. In addition to this, luxurious furnishings, a swimming pool overlooking the bay, flower pots everywhere and polite and accommodating staff. I cannot imagine a better venue for the wedding reception.
After a Bellini-themed aperitif (cocktail with peach puree and champagne) in the garden; at sunset, the newlyweds and their guests moved to the terrace for the dinner. The table settings left us speechless; wedding planners have set crystal chandeliers sprouting out from pink floral decorations, many candles, and small candle holders. A real daydream. I took the couple portraits during a walk through the streets and the most beautiful sights of Portofino. Sarah and Shaun were radiant, on the most beautiful day of their lives.
For her wedding dress, the bride chose the style of Berta Bridal, who has always dressed the most sensual brides in the world. The dress fully reflects all the characteristics of the brand: the tight-fitting, the profound and sexy neckline, the romantic train and all the luxury of the finest lace. It seemed sewn on the forms of the bride! Long sleeves and soft lace veil have brought out her beauty as she walked the streets of Portofino in her Valentino shoes. Shaun also chose an elegant look! His light-coloured suit was perfect for the location: sand-coloured trousers and jacket, white shirt and inevitable for Portofino, navy blue loafers.
