I hate the idea of putting my feet in the sand during my wedding.
With this sentence, followed by a cold gaze, the groom-to-be dismissed all my proposals for the organisation of his wedding reception in Versilia. I care for my guests, and I don’t want them to ruin the shoes, or worse to take them off, in order to enjoy a drink on the seashore.
A beach wedding is a romantic and exciting idea, but it might present many logistical difficulties as well. For instance, what happens if it rains or if it’s cold? Besides this, as the groom has said, not everyone is excited about taking off the shoes and enjoying cocktails or dinner on the sand. Respect for the guests comes first, and he had hit the problem straight on.
I understood his point of view immediately. And although I was trying to make a good impression, as he was marrying one of my most beautiful and unique friends, I had to bite the bullet and admit that he was right. But thanks to my work as a photographer, I proposed him dozens of fantastic venues, from Forte Dei Marmi to Viareggio, and discussed the best ones to arrange the reception.
La Costa Dei Barbari was the ultimate choice. This loft-like building is in Viareggio; just a few minutes drive from Pisa and the most famous town of Tuscany. It provides a renowned local cuisine and lots of areas to arrange every stage of the reception. The dining room indoor is enormous and bright: parquet on the floor, wooden ceilings and large windows. The kitchen is right next door; upstairs, there is a beautiful terrace overlooking the sea and the nearby marina. Outside, white tables welcome guests just a few steps from the seashore.
Together with the newlyweds, I reached this spot of heaven for their wedding photographs at sunset, before they joined their friends and families at the cocktail hour. I captured breathtaking portraits under the warm and romantic light of the last days of August. I couldn’t ask for anything better!
